The power of
Durga Homa

Goddess Durga is a fierce form of Parvati, a feminine deity. The Divine Mother descended to the world in this form to defeat forces creating disturbances on Earth. The evil and misery spreading from this activity ignited the anger of the Goddess, who unleashed her supreme powers to rid the world of evil and anarchy. She is the combined force of all the heavenly beings and her awe-inspiring form evokes fear in the minds of these evil forces.

Purification

The sacred fire (Agni) and mantras used purify the surroundings and the individual's consciousness.

Importance of Sankalpa

Sankalpa comes from two words: Sat meaning good, and Kalpana meaning intention. Sankalpa, therefore, is a good and conscious intention. During pujas, the scattered mind is brought into the present moment. Vedic mantras, when chanted, influence our being; ancient rishis understood the impact of sound on the brain, which is why mantras were precisely formulated. The vibrations created during puja help manifest the sankalpa. While attending pujas has its own benefits, taking a sankalpa increases receptivity and leads to actualization of intention.
